SA wins big at NYC marathon

NEW YORK – South Africa has earned big wins at this year’s New York City Marathon. Over 50,000 people took to the streets of New York yesterday, taking part in a course through all five boroughs.Paralympian Ernst van Dyk won second place in the wheelchair division.
Lusapho April came third in the men’s elite category. He credits his success to his training in the Eastern Cape.
“I went to do altitude training in the Eastern Cape so the progression went well. It’s the first time I have trained without any injuries since I began running.”
He told Eyewitness News it had always been his dream to run the marathon.”It’s kind of like running at the Olympics and that’s why it has been my dream for so long.”
Two other South Africans, Don Oliver and Abraham Mouton, finished in the top 60 hand cycle division.
