THE WINGS FOR LIFE WORLD RUN
On 4 May 2014 at Boschendal Wine Estate in Franschhoek, Western Cape, South African runners of all ages and abilities will join a global adventure when the first WINGS FOR LIFE WORLD RUN kicks off at 12:00pm SAST.
Uniting people around the world in one race running for those who can’t, 100% of the proceeds will go to the Wings for Life Foundation, which funds research into curing spinal cord injury.
This is the first-ever sports event taking place at the same time in 38+ locations around the world and the race format is ground breaking. Unlike standard races, the finish line will be chasing the runners by way of a ‘catcher car’ so each runner will have the opportunity to set their own goal for the race. Run as little as 5kms or, if you’re quick enough to stay ahead of the catcher car for long enough, 48kms. Once a catcher car overtakes a runner their race is over.
Founded by former two-time Motocross World Champion Heinz Kinigadner and Red Bull Founder Dietrich Mateschitz in 2004, the Wings for Life Foundation aims to find a cure for traumatic spinal cord injuries. The foundation enables the implementation of important research projects by providing targeted financial support.
In preparation for the Wings for Life World run, the Wednesday runs started as training runs for the race and are run on the same principle though on a much smaller level.
Wings for Life World Run Wednesdays training runs are FREE and everyone who is keen to run is encouraged to join.
